N.J. native David Copperfield sues pool company after penthouse flood

Illuisionist David Copperfield is suing the Edison pool company that he alleges caused his penthouse to flood.

NEW YORK -- Illusionist David Copperfield has filed a $160,000 lawsuit against an Edison pool company that he says flooded his penthouse as well as other apartments in a swanky Manhattan apartment building.

The New Jersey native's insurer, IMG, filed the suit Monday against Todd Harris Company, according to NYPost.com.

A pump in Copperfield's rooftop lap pool burst, flooding his penthouse and sending water careening into the top 30 stories of the 57-story structure on East 57th Street on March 8.

The company "negligently created system stresses and a crack in the PVC piping and a ball valve," that led to the flood, according to a copy of the suit obtained by the New York Post.

Wallpaper and carpets needed to be replaced in the magician's 8,000 square-foot, four-level residence, but most of his antiques and art were spared. So were his vintage Coney Island arcade machines.

The 58-year-old Metuchen High School graduate, whose given name is David Seth Kotkin, was in Las Vegas when his pool went haywire on March 8.
